Cate Blanchett Goes Barefoot on Stage at Cannes Film Festival
Actress Honored Fellow Star
Slipped Off Heels to Present Award
Actress Cate Blanchett made a statement of style and solidarity on Thursday night by taking off her shoes on stage at the Cannes Film Festival.
Blanchett was presenting the Chopard Trophy to French-Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi, who won the festival's best actress award for her role in the film "Holy Spider."
As Blanchett approached the podium, she slipped off her black heels and presented them to Ebrahimi.
The gesture was met with applause and cheers from the audience.
Blanchett's act of solidarity is not the first time she has used her platform to speak out for women's rights.
In 2018, she launched the Time's Up movement, which aims to combat sexual harassment and assault.
